
Danica Sue Patrick, an American ex-professional racing driver. Danica Sue Patrick is among the top-performing American female open-wheel racing driver. Her victory in Indy Japan 300 in 2008 was her first major win. With the approval of her parents she quit high school and emigrated to the United Kingdom in 1998 to pursue her career. Patrick participated in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Ford before returning to the United States in 2001 due to the lack of funds. In 2002, she competed in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races with Rahal Letterman racing. Patrick participated in the Toyota Atlantic Series the following two years. She was third in the championship standings of the 2004 season. During this time, she became first woman to secure a place in the series. She was the IndyCar Series rookie of the year 2005, and she won the Indianapolis 500. She continued to grow with Rahal Letterman Racing (2006) and later Andretti Green Racing (2007). Patrick was ranked sixth overall in drivers standings in 2008 following her Japan win. She improved on that to finish fifth in the standings for drivers the following season. This was her best performance at the Indianapolis 500 and a career-high for Patrick. Patrick's overall performance was disappointing in 2010, but she did manage two second-place finishes on oval tracks before leaving IndyCar to focus solely on racing stock cars.
